Great song ideas are all around us, but to notice them, one must listen intently and have pen and paper or a recording device quite handy. For example, a plain statement nuanced a bit differently can be fascinating. People speak “hook lines” all the time. Song ideas, of course, come from every aspect of life. Songwriters look for “hooks” in everything they do: listening, reading, viewing, thinking…. For a recent song inspiration, check this out.
“Sometimes Life Really Works” has a truly special meaning for me. After the passing of my beloved spouse of 40+ years and after an interval, I did what she had told me she wanted me to do: I moved on with the life I had left to live. So I researched seniors dating sites and chose Silver Singles. To cut to the chase, within a reasonably short time, I met “her” (she also had lost a long-time spouse). Two and a half years later, we were married. Since I am a songwriter, I was compelled to write a song about it. My thought was that, for all the dating-site experiments that do not work, sometimes they do; obviously my (our) experience was great. We are an example of the process working as it should. When songs are written from the heart, they usually happen quickly. I probably spent less than an hour writing this song. Enjoy!
