Great song ideas are all around us, but to notice them, one must listen intently and have pen and paper or a recording device quite handy. For example, a plain statement nuanced a bit differently can be fascinating. People speak “hook lines” all the time. Song ideas, of course, come from every aspect of life. Songwriters look for “hooks” in everything they do: listening, reading, viewing, thinking…. For a recent song inspiration, check this out.
Several years ago, my beloved wife of 40+ years passed away after a seven-year struggle with cancer. Toward the end of her life, she told me repeatedly that she wanted me to move on with living the rest of my life. She joked about what she would do to haunt me, however, should I become involved with another woman…. Based on her admonition and some time after her death, I decided to see whether I might find such happiness. Not knowing anything better to do, I found a seniors dating site and gave it a whirl. To my great surprise, I was introduced through that site to a wonderful woman (who had lost her beloved spouse of 40 years a few years back). After a time we met in person. Things progressed; a year or so later, I moved five states away to her location. Two and a half years or so after we met, we were married. Being a professional songwriter (among other occupations), I was moved to write a song. It is called “Sometimes Life Really Works.” We hope you enjoy it!
